Piecemakers Complete Quilts, Blankets, Robes

St. John’s Piecemakers placed the fruits of their labors on the pews at St. John’s Lutheran Church this week. The group made 223 full sized and 38 baby/children’s quilts and 52 lap robes in the past year. In addition to quilts given to three congregational seniors, quilts are donated to Doves, The Mission Store, Capstone, Alliance Police Department, Alliance Fire Department, Capstone and Humanities, Inc. Baby/children’s quilts are donated to Western Community Health Services, and lap robes are donated to Highland Park Care Center, Hemingford Community are Center and Western Nebraska Veterans Home. The remainder will be shipped to Lutheran World Relief for worldwide distribution as needed.

In addition to quilts, six dog beds – filled with small scraps left from cutting quilt pieces – have been donated to The Mission Store; 17 stuffies that will be included with the Tree of Warmth and distributed with the annual grocery gift bags; and three walker pockets given to BBGH Rehab department.

Piecemakers is open to anyone who likes to sew – or not. There is room for anyone who wishes to join in the fellowship of serving others. The group meets from 9 a.m. to noon each Tuesday at St. John’s, 2090 Emerson Ave. For information, contact the church, 308-762-1883.
