After winning its seventh straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game last Saturday for the first time since 2008, the Chadron State College football team will play its final home game of the season Saturday, November 8 against the Western Colorado Mountaineers. Kickoff will be at 1 o’clock.
The Eagles’ latest win was a 35-10 decision over South Dakota Mines in Rapid City. Quarterback Adain Thompson threw three touchdown passes in the first half. They added two TDs in the fourth quarter on a 30-yard interception return by linebacker Logan O’Brien and 75-yard drive late.
Meanwhile, Western Colorado lost for the first time this season 24-21 to Colorado State-Pueblo on a 32-yard field goal kicked with no time left on the clock.
The Mountaineers feature quarterback Drew Nash, who has thrown 23 touchdown passes and has been intercepted just twice. He’s also the team’s leading rusher. Another ball carrier for Western is freshman Quinn Bailey, who wrapped up his career at Chadron High last fall after rushing for 5,985 yards and scoring 79 touchdowns.
So far this year, Bailey has carried 74 times for 363 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s also caught three TD passes.
Chadron State leaders include Thompson, the quarterback who has thrown 18 touchdown passes, along with Tommy Thomas, who has caught 61 passes for 746 yards and a dozen TDs. The defensive standouts include O’Brien, who has been chosen the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week three times this season, and safety Dax Yeradi, a starter since his freshman year and an All-American candidate
All are among the 15 CSC seniors who will be recognized prior to the game.
