People Helping People is returning to Alliance once again to serve a Thanksgiving meal, and they invite everyone in the community to share in the holiday feast.
Rahne Girard, who is organizing the meal, explained that this is James’s and her fourth year hosting the event, though the event has been a staple in Alliance for more than 20 years, headed up by Theresa and David Boyles.
“It’s been many years of it going on, and it’s a great thing for our community,” Girard said. “We love that we actually do it on Thanksgiving. We want it to be for anyone. If you’re just sitting at home, we’d rather you come in and enjoy a meal than be home alone for the holiday. That’s what it’s about.”
The meal is set to take place on Thursday, Nov. 27 and will feature both dine-in and pick-up options, Girard explained. The meal will be hosted at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance.
“It is a free donation,” said Girard. “Pick up is from 10:30 a.m. to noon. People will come along Cheyenne Avenue to St. Agnes Academy. They’ll stay in their car and a volunteer will come to them.”
Girard asks that people requesting more than 10 meals come in to receive the meals. Dine-in will last from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., which is all you can eat. People are also allowed to take meals home.
“It’s for anyone,” Girard said. “We want it to be a community dinner. So, the more people who come in and enjoy a meal with us, the better our Thanksgiving will be.”
Girard thanked all of the companies and people who help to make the event a success, including Grocery Kart, Harris Sales, Pepsi and Black Hills Energy, which purchased the turkeys this year. She also thanked the staff at St. Agnes and the Holy Rosary Parish for allowing them to host this meal at their facility. People who are willing to volunteer are encouraged to come Thursday morning before the pick-ups start around 10. People can also help with clean up by coming in a little later.
