In a match up played Friday in Chadron, it was the hometown Cardinals defeating Alliance 54 to 30 in girl’s basketball action. Alliance fell behind early in the contest and dropped to 2 and 4 on the year. The Dogs did get a win in the JV game, besting the Cards 44 to 36. In the late ball game, Chadron led 30 to 9 at halftime and continued to control the action in the second half. Senior Addison Weber was Alliance’s top scorer with 8 points.
Ten straight Cardinal tallies is the how the affair started. With under 2 minutes left in the quarter, the Lady Bulldogs got on the board on a three point play by Weber. A Card three ended the period with Alliance down 13 to 3.
Cold shooting by the guests again in the second plagued an Alliance rally. The hosts began the second with 5 consecutive points to go up by 15. Alliance would get a basket by Olivia Krejci to stop the spree but the Cards came back with 6 in a row to extend their advantage to 24 to 5. The half came to a close with the Dogs getting free throws by Brooke Bailey and a deuce by Paz Cody. Heading to half, the visitors were down 30 to 9.
Alliance would muster just 4 points in the third. Chadron increased its margin by tallying 7 points. Bailey started the period with a bucket. Later in the quarter with the Dogs down 35 to 11, Alliance would get a hoop by Giselle Gonzalez at the 3 minute mark. Period #3 closes with Chadron scoring two points and leading 37 to 13.
Both squads scored 17 points in the fourth. Five Dogs got in the scoring column led by 5 points each by Weber and Cody. A Weber score was followed by 5 points by Cody and a basket by Hannah Benzel that pulled AHS to within 15. The hosts countered with the game’s next 6 points to take a 43 to 22 lead. Down the stretch, Alliance would get threes from Weber and Kaelyn Mazanec along with a deuce by Brinlee Lanik but wasn’t enough. Final Chadron 54 Alliance 30
