Quest for Four Peat Fails as Crusaders Lose to Cody/Kilgore

Semi final action on Monday had St Agnes battling Cody/Kilgore in Hemingford at the Pan Handle Conference boy’s tournament. Using a strong defense and good inside play, it was the Cowboys from Cody getting the win 30 to 13. St Agnes drops to 4 and 5 on the year. The Academy was hoping to capture the title for the fourth time in a row but ran into a very talented Cody/Kilgore group. SA advanced earlier in the day with a big win over Morrill but could manage just 5 buckets for the game. Cody would lose to the host Bobcats in the finals. Nine schools took part in the event. Mason Conyers led Alliance in scoring with 4 tallies.

Cold shooting would haunt both sides in the first. St Agnes got a bucket by Conyers to take their lone lead at 2 to 0. The Cowboys came back with a score later and the quarter ended tied at 2. Period #2 is when the momentum went to CK. Cody held the Crusaders to just one point while scoring 8 of their own. Down 5 to 2, Alliance got a free throw by Liam Pena to get close. Cody responded with 5 straight to finish the half. Heading to halftime, St Agnes was down 7 at 10 to 3.

Cody/Kilgore’s full court pressure again gave Alliance fits in the third. The Crusaders would score 4 tallies in the period as the Cowboys increased their edge. Scores from Conyers and Tatum Devlin kept SA in the contest. CK ended the third with a 2 and led 19 to 7 heading to the fourth.

Alliance struck first in quarter 4 with a hoop by Chief Cody but would get no closer. Cody went on a 9 to 0 run to go up by 19 with 2 minutes remaining in the affair. A free throw by Devlin stopped the spree. The matchup ended with a Cody/Kilgore deuce and a three pointer by Crusader Declan Kirchner.
