SA Begin Tournament with Win Over Bulldogs

Opening round of the end of the year Scottsbluff tournament had St Agnes taking on the AMS 8th grade b squad. SA advanced to the semifinals with a 27 to 2 over the Dogs. Leading scorer for the Academy was Mason Conyers who netted 12 points. Sonny Hernandez scored for AMS. The Crusaders led 19 to 0 at halftime and were never threatened.

St Agnes got 6 early tallies by Conyers to build a comfortable lead. The defense for the Academy was strong as the Bulldogs failed to score in the first quarter. A free throw by Crusader Ashton Weingart ensued and the period closed with a hoop by the Academy’s Tee Johnson. After one, the Crusaders were up 9 to 0.

Ten more tallies in the second by SA put the game away. Meanwhile, the Crusaders pitched another shutout in the quarter. St Agnes got four points by Chief Cody in the stanza to increase their advantage. Also finding the scoring column for the Academy in the second were: Conyers, Tatum Devlin, and Johnson. St Agnes had a 19 to 0 lead at halftime.

Play slowed in the third with the Crusaders scoring 6 while holding the Dogs scoreless. Buckets by Conyers, Devlin, and Johnson made the score Crusaders 25 Bulldogs 0 heading to the fourth. Both squads would score 1 basket each in the fourth. Conyers had a deuce and Hernandez scored for AMS. Final Crusaders 27 Dogs 2
