Sidney Silences AHS 64 to 29

Sidney and Alliance met Friday in Alliance for the third time this season in girl’s basketball action. It wasn’t third times a charm for the hosts as the Raiders defeated AHS 64 to 29. The guests put together a 15 to 0 run at the start of the second half and downed the Dogs for the third time this year. With the loss, Alliance’s record now stands at 5 and 19. Sidney also won the JV game, besting the Bulldogs 51 to 12. Alliance was led in scoring by Reese Armstrong who finished with 7 points. AHS was behind by 13 at halftime before a big surge by the Red Raiders in quarter 3 put the nail in the coffin.

Play began with a three by Armstrong and a strong effort by the Alliance defense. Sidney would not score until the 4 minute mark of the first. After a tying three by the visitors, AHS got a 2 from Olivia Krejci to take a 5 to 3 lead. The quarter closed with the Dogs getting free throws by Krejci and Paz Cody and 6 points by the Raiders. After one, the Bulldogs were down 9 to 7.

Sidney expanded its lead in the second. The Red Raiders started the period on a 9 to 0 spurt to go up 18 to 7. A hoop by Armstrong stopped the spree and another trey by the guests ensued as the Dog’s deficit stood at 21 to 9. At the midway stage, two free throws by Bulldog Brooke Bailey along with a three pointer by Cody pulled Alliance to within 9 at 23 to 14. The last four scores of the half came from Sidney and the board read at halftime Sidney 27 Alliance 14.

Any hopes of an upset by the Dogs were quickly dashed in the early moments of the third. Sidney’s advantage went from 13 to 28 as the guests went on a 15 to 0 run. Down 42 to 14, Alliance would get tallies from Addison Weber and Bailey to slow down the Raider attack. Later, a three by Weber made it a 44 to 21 ball game. In the closing minutes, Alliance got a deuce from Armstrong for their lone points. Sidney took a 55 to 23 lead heading to the fourth.

A pair of threes is how the fourth began. After a 3 pointer by the visitors, AHS got a three from Brinlee Lanik. Along with the Lanik 3, a free throw by Weber and a bucket by Krejci was all the Alliance offense could manage in the fourth. Sidney would net 9 points in the period and go on for the win 64 to 29.

It was Senior night for the girl’s team. Alliance honored their long senior Addison Weber who has been a key contributor for the Dogs for the last three years. Weber will definitely be missed.

On Monday, Alliance will open district play in Lexington with a match up against Plattsmouth.
