A big fourth quarter enabled Lexington to get past Alliance 50 to 33 in girls basketball action on Saturday. AHS was outscored 17 to 9 in the final 8 minutes as the Minutemaids posted the win. The contest played in Lexington. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 5 and 18 on the year. Alliance cut their deficit to 6 early in the fourth but were outscored 15 to 4 in the game’s final moments. Top scorer for Alliance was freshman Reese Armstrong who ended with 13.
Dog defense was stingy at the beginning. Lex would score their first basket at the 2:35 mark. Two free throws by Brooke Bailey and a 2 by Brinlee Lanik hoop gave the guests an early 4 to 0 advantage. A 2 by Armstrong later in the period made it 6 to 2. The quarter closed with 3 straight by Lex. After one period of play, the Dogs were up 6 to 5.
Lex bested the Bulldogs in the second 16 to 5 to take the lead. The quarter started with a Lexington three but a deuce by Armstrong tied the contest at 8. At the 4 minute stage, AHS got a Bailey free throw to stay close. Unfortunately, the Minutemaids would go on a 6 to 0 spree to extend their margin to 16 to 9. Armstrong’s basket ended the spurt but the half closed with four consecutive Lex tallies. The hosts led 21 to 11 at halftime.
Seven third period points by Armstrong kept things interesting. Down 12, an Armstrong trey made the score 23 to 14. Lex came back with a 2 but 7 straight by the Dogs put the deficit at 4. Armstrong’s 4 points led the way along with 3 tallies by Addison Weber. The period finished with 8 points by Lex and Alliance getting 3 tallies by Paz Cody. Lexington led 33 to
24 heading to the fourth.
Quarter #4 began well for the guests. A three by Lanik plus a 2 by Weber pulled Alliance to within 6 at 35 to 29. Momentum then went to the hosts as Lex scored 3 straight buckets to go up by 12 with 4 minutes remaining. A Bailey basket stopped the run but 4 straight by the hosts ensued. In the final minutes, Alliance got a two by Olivia Krejci but wasn’t enough.
