Win over Mitchell Sends JV Boys to Championship Game

Alliance is hosting an end of the year boy’s JV tournament which began on Monday. Tuesday had the Bulldogs facing the Tigers from Mitchell in semi final play. AHS raced to a big lead in the first quarter and downed the guests 72 to 35. With the victory the Dogs will play Scottsbluff for the first place. Alliance had three Bulldogs finishing in double figures led by Danny Jelinek who tallied 15 points on 5 three point hoops. Carsyn Rodriguez scored 12 while Drayden Konopnicki added 10. Jelinek canned 4 treys in the fourth period as the Dogs extended their advantage. Overall, Alliance ended the night with 9 threes.

Down early 4 to 2, the hosts went on a 15 to 0 run to take control. A hoop by Bulldog Tripp Johnson began the scoring. With the Tigers ahead by 2, AHS got five points by Cisco Cody, four tallies each by Israel Garcia and Rodriguez and a two by Smiley Valdovinos to surge ahead by 13 heading to the second. Action in the second started with a Tiger bucket. A hoop by Rodriguez then ensued. Alliance then went inside to Konopnicki who scored 4 straight that put the Mitchell deficit at 23 to 8. Following a Tiger 2, AHS scored 6 in a row thanks to baskets by Valdovinos, Konopnicki, and Garcia. The half closed with another deuce by Konopnicki and four tallies by the visitors. After 2 quarters of action, Alliance was up 31 to 14.

Play in the third favored the Bulldogs but by just one point. Alliance put 11 points on the scoreboard in the quarter while Mitchell netted 10. Konopnicki scored the first hoop for AHS. Later in the stanza, three pointers by Cody and Jelinek kept the Dogs out in front. Scoring for Alliance concluded in the third with a free throw by Xander Narjes and a two by Mason Winter. Alliance took a 42 to 24 lead heading to the fourth.

Alliance’s best scoring period was the fourth as the Dogs put 30 in the score column. After a three by Jelinek, AHS got a two by Rodriguez to go up by 23. The squads then swapped scores with the Bulldogs getting threes by Jelinek and Winter. Points by the Bulldogs continued to pull up later in the fourth with Jelinek and Grayson Dibrito leading the way. The duo combined for 10 tallies- 6 from Jelinek and 4 from Dibrito- that made the score Alliance 63 Mitchell 30. After a three ball by the Tigers, AHS ended the contest with tallies by Narjes and Rodriguez. Final Alliance 72 Mitchell 35
