Dogs Dominate Nelson Invite

Temperature in the 80s welcomed track fans on Monday to Alliance with schools competing in the Steve Nelson Invite. AHS took advantage of the good conditions with strong showings by both squads. With 236 points, the Bulldogs won the boy’s team title with Chadron second at 99. The Lady Cardinals of Chadron won the girl’s trophy with 156 points while Alliance was second with 130. Alliance’s boys and Chadron’s girls also won the Division 2 event. Overall, there was 8 schools participating in the event which was held at Bulldog Stadium. Scottsbluff and Alliance also had athletes competing in the unified category.

Seventeen events were on the schedule with the Alliance’s boys club winning 12. The Bulldogs got first place efforts in Division 1 from: Jackson Shelmadine in the 200 and pole vault, Eddie Red Nest in the 400, Asher Saka in the mile, Trevor Zurn in the 2 mile, Eladio Campos in both the shot and the discus, Devin Graham in the high jump and Tanner Salcido in the triple jump. AHS won the 400, mile, and 2 mile relays. Winning gold for the girls in division 1 were: Danielle Cole in the 100, Brooke Bailey in the 200, Kimber Freiberger in the mile, Maslin Breen in the high jump, Reese Armstrong in the pole vault, and Lexi Lopez in the long jump. AHS also won the mile relay.

Division 2 winners were: Xander Narjes in the 110 hurdles and discus, Colter Tolstedt in the shot, Traysn Best in the high jump, and the mile relay. Aiden Johnson won 2 golds in the unified division in the 100 and long jump while also getting first place were Espen Lanik in the shot, Alexis Libsack in the long jump, Brinlee Lanik in the 100, and Amilya Lopez in the shot.
