A real pitcher’s dual took place Friday in a game between the Peltz Co Prep club and Chadron. Alliance would muster just 2 hits but it was enough. The Spartans defeated Chadron PVC Post 12 four to zero in a ball game played in Alliance. Three Spartans-Quinn Ferguson, Silas Lilley-Stone and Logan Freiberger- held the guests to just one hit in picking up the W. At the plate, the Preps got hits from Ferguson and Esai Trejo in downing the visitors. Alliance scored twice in the first and added 2 more in the third in defeating their rivals.
Ferguson recorded a strikeout in the opening frame as Chadron failed to score. Alliance got 2 in the bottom of the inning. Walks to Roy Torres and Dixon Bair began the scoring. A sac fly by Jace Jensen followed and gave the Preps a one run lead. The Peltz Co then went up by 2 after an error by Chadron. Trejo ended the inning with a hit as the Spartans led 2 to 0 after one inning of play. Frame 2 was a scoreless one for both squads with Ferguson getting 2 more k’s.
In the home half of the third, Alliance extended its margin. Torres reached on a miscue by Post 12 and later scored on another error by Chadron. Ferguson then doubled that made it a 4 to 0 contest. Three more strikeouts by Alliance in top of the fourth by Lilley-Stone helped the Peltz Co maintain their lead.
Chadron would get their lone knock in the top of the fifth but three strikeouts by Alliance kept the guests off the board. Hopes were high for the Preps in the bottom of the frame with 3 straight walks to began their last at bat. But three straight strikeouts foiled the Prep’s chances. Freiberger then recorded 2 k’s in the last attempt from Chadron. Final Alliance 4 Chadron 0
