Rapid City’s four day tournament came to an end on Sunday with Alliance playing Billings. A super effort by Spartan Kobe Strom gave the Peltz Co a chance but in the end it was the Bandits posting the win 12 to 9. Strom finished with three hits to lead the Seniors. Carver Nemnich added a homer. Overall, Alliance closed with 12 hits. The matchup was tied heading into the fifth before Billings scored 7 times to take a big lead. On the mound for the Spartans were starter Braeden Clarke along with relief hurlers Lexton Salcido and Strom. With the loss, the Seniors fall to 13 and 8.
Hits by Espen Lanik and Strom gave the Peltz Co an early one run margin. The Bandits would surge ahead in the bottom of the inning with 2 scores. An RBI hit by Kegan Rodriguez in the top of the second then knotted the game at 2 while the Bandits went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the frame. Both squads scored in the third. A hit by Senior Nason Thompson along with an error by Billings put the Peltz Co lead at 3 to 2. Two Bandit knocks in the home half would tie the contest at 3 after 3 innings of play.
Both teams wouldn’t score in the fourth. Alliance bats again were cold in the fifth while the Bandits were hot, scoring 7 times in their attempt. Slowly, the Peltz Co started their comeback. The rally started with 3 runs in the top of the sixth. An rbi hit by Thompson scored Strom who had double. Nemnich followed with a 2 run bomb as the Spartans closed to 10 to 6. The frame ended with a hit from Tanner Salcido. Billings countered with 2 scores and the game went to the seventh with the Peltz Co down 12 to 6.
Inning #7 had the Seniors score three more. Hits from Lanik, Tony Escamilla, Strom, and Nemnich made the board read Billings 12 Alliance 9. It was close as the Spartans would get. The Bandits won the battle by three.
