A big performance at the plate by a pair of Spartans keyed an Alliance win over Westco 14 to 5 on Wednesday. Both Teagen O’Gorman and Tanner Salcido ended the contest with 3 hits each in the victory over the Express. The Peltz Co had a seven run second inning in taking the W. Kyler Hamel started the game and 3 plus frames before Carson Stull tossed the final 1.3 frames. The game was played in Scottsbluff. Alliance ended the match up with 12 knocks.
Salcido shined on both sides in the opener. His rbi triple made it 1 to 0. Later in the first , a wild pitch put the Juniors ahead 2 to 0. The Express came back with 4 in the home half also using a triple . After one inning of action, SB led by 2. Salcido from his catcher’s position did throw out an Express player trying to steal.
Alliance retook the advantage in the top of the second with seven tallies. Six Spartan knocks led the rally. The Peltz Co loaded the paths on walks to Jaxon Poss and Jackson Devlin and a hit by Jackson Shelmadine. A passed ball made it 4 to 3 while a single by O’Gorman made it 5 to 4. Alliance’s margin then grew as hits by Creighton Fritzler, Salcido, Miguel Galvan, and Poss made the board read Alliance 9 Scottsbluff 4. The Express failed to score in the bottom of the second. The Juniors picked up another score in the third on knocks by O’Gorman and Galvan. Scottsbluff went down scoreless in their at bat and the contest went to the 4th with the Spartans up by 6.
Bats again were hot for the Juniors in the fourth. The Spartans received hits from Shelmadine, O’Gorman, and Salcido to surge ahead 13 to 4. A walk and a hit by the hosts made it an 8 run Alliance lead heading into the final inning. Spartan Braeden Clarke score the game last’s run in the top of inning #5 with a walk and a steal of home.
