Play at the Clair Conley continued Friday with a battle between the Spartan’s Juniors and the Westco Zephyrs. Alliance fought to the end but fell 5 to 2. Three scores in the top of frame #4 by the guests carried Scottsbluff to the win. Miguel Galvan started for the Peltz Co and threw into the fifth. He was relieved by Carson Stull. The Spartans had 6 hits for the contest and were led by Tanner Salcido who finished with 2.
Two strikeouts by Galvan in the top of the first kept the Bluffs off the board. Alliance also went silently in the inning. Both clubs got into the column in the second. Westco scored once to surge ahead. In the home half, hits by Salcido and Casyn Rodriguez helped the Spartans tie the game at 1. Frame three was scoreless one. The Peltz Co got a single by Fletcher Moseman but no scores. After three, the affair was knotted at 1 all.
Westco retook the lead in the top of the fourth with 3 tallies. Action started with Salcido from his catcher’s position throwing a Zephyr out on the bases. The visitors though used a couple of knocks and an error by the Juniors to plate three. Hits by Salcido and Galvan in the bottom of the inning gave the Peltz Co an opportunity but both runners failed to cross. In the fifth, more good D by the Spartans kept Alliance close. Creighton Fritzler gunned down a Bluff’s runner trying to score. The Spartans went 1-2-3 in their at bat in the frame.
Both clubs scored one in the sixth. Down 5 to 1, the Juniors scored once when Fritzler reached on an error by Westco and scored on another miscue by the guests. The contest closed with a scoreless 7th inning by the Zephyrs and the Juniors getting a knock by Jaxon Poss but no runs. Final. Zephyrs
