A very successful Gillette tournament for the Alliance Spartans continued on Saturday with a 12 to 0 over the hosts. Pitcher Tanner Salcido hurled 5 shutout innings in getting the victory. With the W, the Peltz Co goes to 4 and 0 for the tourney. Seven tallies in the third by the Seniors helped the Spartans pull away. At the dish, Alliance closed with 9 hits. Espen Lanik, Carver Nemnich, and Jaxon Poss all finished with 2 knocks each.
Pitching on both sides was strong in the early stages. Both clubs were scoreless in frames 1 and 2. Alliance would come alive in the top of the third with 7 scores. Hits by Poss, Lanik, and Nemnich plus a steal of home made it 4 to 0. A 2 run triple off the bat of Tony Escamilla and a Rider error put the Gillette deficit at 7. Salcido tossed a shutout frame in the home half and the contest went to the fourth with the Peltz Co up 7 to 0.
Alliance’s bats were hot again in frame #4. Another good swing by Lanik began the scoring. It was followed by RBI hits by Nason Thompson and Jaxson Esparza. Up 9, the Spartans received a knock by Nemnich and a 2 run miscue by the Riders to surge ahead by 11. Two more Salcido strikeouts in the bottom of the fourth preserved the shutout. In their last attempt in the fifth, the Seniors got one more tally. Two more Gillette errors along with a single by Poss resulted in run #12. The hosts went down 1-2-3 in their final at bat.
