Alliance played Sunday in the championship game in Gillette versus Sanford. A very good weekend for the Spartans came to an end with a loss to the Reds 8 to 2
The Peltz Co went 4 and 1 for the tournament and now have a record of 29 and 11. Sanford tallied three runs in the fifth frame in winning the tourney. Carver Nemnich continued his fine weekend by leading the Seniors with 3 knocks. Starter Kegan Rodriguez went 4 plus frames and was relieved by Kyler Hamel, Nemnich, and Fletcher Moseman. The Spartans ended the affair with 11 hits.
Innings 1 and 2 were quiet for both squads. The Peltz Co got a first frame hit by Jaxon Poss but no scores. In the second, the Seniors flipped a double play to keep Sanford out of the scoring column. Nemnich double in the home half and was left on the paths. Slowly, the Red club pulled away. Sanford scored once in the third and added another tally in the fourth to take the lead. Alliance got another single by Poss in the last of the third. Trailing 2 to 0 in the bottom of frame four, the Seniors received successful swings from Jaxson Esparza and Kobe Strom but no runs crossed. Heading to the fifth, the Peltz Co was down 2 to 0.
With 2 outs in the top of inning #5, the bats for South Dakota came alive as Sanford plated 3 to go up by 5. Alliance failed to score in their at bat. Frame 6 had Sanford score twice to put the Alliance deficit at 7. Knocks by Nemnich and Kobe in the last of the inning gave the Spartans an opportunity. Both runners then came home on a 2 run hit by Tony Escamilla. Mike Johnson ensued with a hit but Sanford put down the rally. One more score in the top of the seventh by SD made to board read 8 to 2. Alliance got seventh inning hits by Espen Lanik and Nemnich. Both runners were stranded as Sanford took the win 8 to 2.
