As we move through the interim, Nebraska continues to experience positive developments in economic growth, agriculture, and overall prosperity. I would like to share a few highlights from across the state.
Nebraska ranked 5th overall in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best States Rankings, reflecting strong performance across key economic and quality-of-life indicators. The state ranked 3rd in infrastructure and 8th in fiscal stability, receiving recognition for its reliable public power system, renewable energy resources, transportation network, and business-friendly environment.
Nebraska’s economy continues to demonstrate perseverance, with the state’s unemployment rate remaining at 2.9% in June 2026, well below the national rate of 4.2%. The state’s labor force also remained strong, with 1,099,013 individuals participating in the workforce, reflecting continued job growth, economic stability, and the strength of Nebraska’s workforce.
Nebraskans’ resiliency remains strong, a testament to our unwavering spirit, even as we continue to navigate the complexities within the crucial agricultural industry. The USDA has designated two additional Nebraska counties, Lancaster and Saline, along with 11 neighboring counties, as drought disaster areas. This designation makes farmers in these areas eligible for USDA Farm Service Agency emergency loans. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins helped expand assistance available to producers affected by drought conditions. Eligible farmers have eight months from the date of the disaster declaration to apply for loan assistance through their local FSA office.
In other news, I had the privilege of attending this year’s Statesmen Academy in Washington, DC, where I had the opportunity to strengthen my leadership skills, expand my understanding of public service, and learn from experienced leaders and fellow participants committed to making a positive impact. The Academy provided valuable training, mentorship, and connections that enhanced my ability to approach policymaking with integrity, collaboration, and a commitment to serving others.
