District Action Begins for Seniors with Tough Loss to Chadron

Sidney’s Legion Park is hosting the Area 7 district tournament for the next few days. Opening round on Friday had Alliance playing Chadron. Two late tallies by Post 12 led Chadron past the Seniors 4 to 2. The game was tied at 2 heading to the last inning before PVC pulled away. Alliance was held to just 3 hits with Espen Lanik leading the way with 2. Lanik started for the Peltz Co and went 4 frames. Tossing in relief were Lexton Salcido and Braeden Clarke.

In the first, it was Chadron taking the lead with a run while the Spartans failed to score in the opener. Frame 2 was a scoreless one for both sides. PVC threatened in the third but a Chadron runner was thrown out at the plate by Alliance outfielder Kobe Strom. Lanik singled in the home half and was left on the bases. Heading to the fourth, the Peltz Co was down

1 to 0.

Both teams tallied scores in the fourth. Chadron pushed one across to go up by 2. In the bottom of the 4th, the Seniors tied the battle. Nason Thompson drew a walk and scored after an RBI swing by Carver Nemnich. Alliance then knotted the contest after a wild pitch. Salcido recorded 2 strikeouts in the top of the fifth as Chadron failed to break the tie. Alliance bats were also cold in the home half and the ball game went to the sixth still tied at 2.

Two more Salcido Ks in the top of inning #6 gave the Peltz Co a chance. Unfortunately, the Spartans also went scoreless in their sixth frame at bat that kept the game knotted at 2 heading to the 7th. Post 12 then retook the advantage in their last attempt in the top of the seventh with 2 runs. Lanik singled in the bottom on the frame but was stranded. Final Chadron 4. Alliance 2
