Undefeated Chadron took on Alliance on Tuesday in Chadron. All three sets in the varsity ball game where close but in the end, it was the hosts prevailing. CHS was victorious in the varsity battle by scores of 25 20 25 20 and 25 18. The Bulldogs also dropped the JV affair 25 17 25 12 and the reserve contest 25 14 25 17. With the loss, Alliance’s varsity squad falls to 2 and 6 for the year.
AHS stormed out to a nice lead in the opening set of the varsity game. Four points including three aces by Bulldog Brinlee Lanik keyed the surge. Alliance got an opening kill by Ryli Poss to began the scoring. The teams then swapped tallies with AHS getting kills by Brooke Bailey and Poss and a Bailey point. Up 8 to 6, the Bulldog lead went to three after a point Jadyn Aguallo. Chadron responded with a mini run to take a three point lead before another score by Lanik made it 15 to 13. Later in the action, the guests got back to back points by Poss plus a kill by Maslin Breen to get within 3 at 20 to 17. The Cards would not be denied as CHS made the plays in the closing moments. Alliance would get an ace spike by Kaitlyn Shannon and another tally by Aguallo but it wasn’t enough. Chadron won the set 25 to 20.
All Alliance early in the second. The Bulldogs charged out to a 4 point advantage thanks to plays by Poss, Lanik, and Bailey, and Shannon. Four straight Bailey tallies gave the visitors the lead at 7 to 2. Despite another kill by Shannon, it was the Cardinals controlling the action at the midway mark. Chadron outscored AHS 11 to 2 to take the lead at 13 to 9. Down 5 later in the set, the Lady Dogs put together a nice spurt to jump right back into the contest. Lead by three consecutive points by Lanik and a kill by Reese Armstrong, the guests got within one at 16 to 15. Chadron though was too tough down the stretch. AHS would get 2 Poss tallies and kills by Shannon and Olivia Krejci but the final points belonged to the hosts. Final of set 2 Chad 25 All 20.
A 9 to 4 spree by the Cards in set three denied an Alliance rally. AHS got an ace block by Breen but it was the hosts controlling play. Points later in the set by Kenley Jelinek and Lanik along with 2 kills by Poss knotted the set at 10. More ace spikes by Poss helped AHS stay in the hunt midway thru the set. With the score 14 to 13 in favor on the Cardinals, CHS made one last stand. The hosts ended the game on a 11 to 5 spree to take the W 25 to 18.
