Longhorns Outlast the Academy in Three

Hyannis hosted a volleyball Tri on Thursday, featuring the hosts, St. Agnes, and Cody Kilgore. In the opener, it was the Longhorns rallying to down the Academy 13 25 25 21 and 25 20. SA falls to 0 and 1 on the year. Eleven Quinn Robertson points led the Crusaders in scoring while Kale Hulquist ended with 8 points and 4 kills.

Set one was a dominated by the guests. A pair of ace serves by Robertson got the Academy off to a fast start. After strong plays by Alliance’s Avery Breen and Nala Reza, Hulquist went to the line and ran off 5 in a row as the Lady Crusaders surged ahead 12 to 5. Two points and a kill by Breen later in the action put the Horn deficit at 8. Set one came to a close with Alliance getting points and kills by Peyton Lauder, Allie Armstrong, and Hulquist. Final of set #1 Alliance 25 Hyannis 13.

A late run by the Horns in set 2 propelled Hyannis to the win. The Academy got super play from Robertson, Hulquist, Breen, and Armstrong to tie the game at 10. Two Reza tallies gave SA a brief lead. Alliance then went up by 4 after 2 scores by Robertson. Back came the hosts. Hyannis went on a big run and lead 23 to 19 before a kill and ace serve by Robertson. The Longhorns tallied the final 2 points and won the set 25 to 21.

In the finale, both sides enjoyed the lead. Three Robertson plays made it 3 to 1 in favor of SA. The clubs then swapped blows with the Academy getting a kill by Hulquist. Points and kills by Reza and Robertson ensued as the action remained tight. A point by Breen cut the Crusader deficit to 2 at 17 to 15. Hyannis then went on a mini run, outscoring the Academy 6 to 3 to go up by 4 at 23 to 19. Reza ended the spurt with a point but in the end it was the hosts making all the plays.
