Holy Rosary’s Parish Center hosted the Pan Handle Conference Junior High Volleyball tournament with 8 schools competing. In the opening round, St. Agnes downed Hyannis 25 12 25 10 to move into a semi final match with Hemingford. The Cats defeated Edgemont in their first affair. Other first round play had Crawford/Sioux County getting the win over Cody/Kilgore and Hay Springs defeating Morrill. The matches were played on Saturday in Alliance.
St. Agnes used balanced scoring in posting the W over Hyannis. Five points each by Avery Breen and Nala Reza paced the Crusader offense with Peyton Lauder chipping in with 4 tallies. The contest was tied at 2 before a strong run by the Academy gave SA a comfortable lead. Points and kills early on by Quinn Robertson and Kale Hulquist sent Breen to the line where she scored 4 in a row. Later in the opener, after a kill by Hulquist, Lauder scored 4 consecutive to made it 12 to 4 in favor of the Crusaders. Alliance pulled away thanks to big plays by Hulquist and Reza. Five straight by Reza put the Longhorn deficit at 21 to 8. Set one went to the Academy 25 to 10 after points and kills by Robertson and Lauder.
Three ace serves by Robertson in the second put Hyannis in a big hole. Alliance led by 6 after another Hulquist ace spike. Ahead 13 to 6, 2 straight by Reza made to 15 to 6. The teams then swapped scores with SA getting more strong performances from Breen and Hulquist. The game came to a finish with the Academy receiving points by Lauder and Allie Armstrong and another kill by Hulquist. Alliance took the set 25 12
