Glad to Live in a Free Country

By PAT KRIZ

I am a concerned citizen who was appalled by what happened on Wednesday Jan. 6 while the senators and congressmen were trying to verify the election results.

I think the sitting president should deny what happened. It led to the death of five people. I’m glad that the people who did this will be punished. President Trump won’t attend the inauguration of Joe Biden which is a good thing. I don’t agree that they should harass the people on their way home.

I don’t agree with the democratic policies of being for abortion, gay marriages and bringing immigrants into our country. Too many Americans are already unemployed.

However, I do like Biden’s plan to stop the Keystone Pipeline. I’m glad that we live in Nebraska where we can attend religious services. Also, my husband, who is almost 81 and I, who is almost 82 were able to get our first dose of the Moderna vaccine. I’m also finally going to be able to have my hip surgery this week—it was postponed twice. We follow all the protocols that they tell us to.

I’m glad that we live in a free country because some people can’t do this.

A number of years ago my family was able to visit the U.S. capitol building and we watched in horror to see it being desecrated.

I also think that it was horrible last year when the black people were held back by the police and National Guard members and President Trump was seen in front of a church holding a bible and they were able to harass these black people until the mayor imposed a curfew.
