BBGH Highlights COVID Vaccinations

The Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) Board of Trustees (Board) meeting was called to order at 12 p.m. Monday, March 29 in the Alliance Room and via Zoom. Five board members were present. Discussions involved the current status of the COVID-19 vaccine, a revision to the current-temporary visitation policy, updates to the banking resolution, and the beginning stages of BBGH’s new Wellness Program. February’s financial report, consent calendar and credentialing requests were approved as presented.

In partnership with Dave’s Pharmacy and Alliance Community Pharmacy, BBGH is now vaccinating the population that is 18 years of age and older. All patrons wanting the COVID-19 vaccine that have registered have received the vaccine. It is imperative to remember that if you have not received the vaccine and are eligible, you may register at any time.

Brooke Shelmadine, Director of Organizational Development and Brian Shelmadine, D.O., Ph.D. were present to provide an update to changes coming to the Employee Wellness program. The philosophy at BBGH is to provide a more wholistic approach to employee wellbeing. Through the Gallup Organization, wellbeing elements will be incorporated into the employee wellness program through a pilot project, then rolled out to all employees at the 2022 open enrollment fair. Gallup’s research shows wellbeing is the combination of our love for what we do each day (Career), the quality of our relationships (Social), the security of our finances (Financial), the vibrancy of our physical health (Physical), and the pride we take in what we have contributed to our communities (Community). These are the five elements of wellbeing.

New BBGH employees introduced include Sarah Steele, Cook Assistant, Jessica Anders, RN, Taylor Glesinger, P.A.-C, Hospitalist, Olivia Sanchez, Admissions Clerk, Theresa Broad, Temp Screener, Nicolas Apolilus, Maintenance Tech, and Beth Daugherty, Operations Associate. Staff recognition includes Katherine Baillie, BSN, RN, March Employee of the Month, Jim Bargen, COO, recently graduated with his MBA-Healthcare Management, Jenni Johnson, BSN, RN, Inpatient Nurse Manager, earned her certificate in Nursing Management and Leadership, and Katelyn Thomas passed her personal training certification and will transition from a Fitness Center Attendant to Personal Trainer.

There was the need for a brief executive session regarding a litigation issue. The trustees entered into executive session at 12:52 pm, and with no action taken came out of executive session at 1:07 pm and adjourned the meeting. The next BBGH regular board meeting is Monday, April 26th at noon in the Alliance Room. In the interest of room size limitations, the public is welcome to attend via Zoom.
