Arbor Day at Alliance Public Library

Recently, the Arbor Day Foundation named Alliance a 2020 Tree City USA. According to the City, this honor was given because of meeting four requirements: the city has a tree board, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day proclamation or observance.

This month the library began putting together book clubs kits for patrons to check out, one of which contains four copies of the book “The Hidden Life of Trees.” Amazon’s description says, “In the Hidden Life of Trees Peter Wohlleben makes the case that the forest is a social network. He draws on groundbreaking scientific discoveries to describe how trees are like human families: tree parents live together with their children, communicate with them, support them as they grow, share nutrients with those who are sick or struggling, and even warn each other of impending dangers. Wohlleben also shares his deep love of woods and forests, explaining the amazing processes of life, death and regeneration he has observed in his woodland. A walk in the woods will never be the same again.” Come to the library and celebrate Arbor Day with this wonderful and enlightening read!
