Evert W. Smith, 81, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Box Butte General Hospital.
He was born on July 24, 1939 in his parents’ home in Alliance to Otto and Belle (Green) Smith.
On February 12, 1967 he was united in marriage to Judith M. Lehl in Alliance.
Evert worked for 40 years for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He began as a Switchman, then worked as a Brakeman and retiring as a Conductor. With his daughter, Vicki and his wife, Judy they operated Sweet Bre’s Flower Shop for 28 years. At the flower shop Evert was proud of the fact he had worked his way up to delivery boy.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, his daughters, Cynthia (Brian) Byer of Detroit, MI and Vicki Smith (Tim Overshiner) of Alliance, his grandchildren, Breanna Smith and Zachariah Overshiner, his great-granddaughters, Brooklynn and Jozzlyn Smith and his mother-in-law, Alvina Lehl of Alliance. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Anthony in 1971, his parents, his siblings, Bill Green, Ginny Wyatt, Donald Smith, Albert Smith, Della Sanchez and Otto Smith.
Memorial services will be Monday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Reverend Richard Mueller and Reverend Shaun Daugherty will be officiating.
