Poetry 101

Summer has finally arrived. It’s always way busy, but take time out for a mini-vacation.

Small Secrets

The secret world starts here

among tangled roots that reach

deep into damp sod. This is where

ants pursue busy work, where

a grasshopper whirs its wings

and settles down atop

a sunflower stalk. Here,

a snake slithers his stripes

among tall grasses. Redwings

 sway on the cattails and

sing praises of summer.

Here in the meadow,

everything minds its own.

I lie still, let the solstice sun

press me close to ground zero,

decide I’ll never go back

to the rat race. But then,

my playful pup puts

a cold nose on my neck.

She has a secret too, and

can’t wait to tell it.
