I just moved back to this area after spending the last 20+ years in the “Big Cities” of Omaha and Lincoln. I was born and raised in Chadron, and spent 25 years on a Sandhills ranch, so this is familiar country to me.
I promised myself, on my first day here, that I would stand outside in the morning with my cup of coffee and watch the sunrise. And I did. It was as wonderful as I imagined. In “The City ” I rarely had that opportunity.
The first rain after I moved here was glorious. I could smell the rain after the storm! I’d hadn’t smelled rain in decades. I always thought rain smelled like rocks. Go figure.
I am happy to be here, back with my family and the Sandhills. Everyone I’ve met here in Alliance has been friendly and helpful, willing to take the time to get to know you. Alliance has so much to be proud of. The citizens and town officials have made it possible to enjoy the Arts Center, new(er) library, modern swimming pool, the Central Park with the stately fountain and newly rebuilt Pillars. AND, of course, Carhenge.
What Alliance lacks in shopping venues, entertainment and concerts, zoos, and other “amenities” found in Metropolitan areas, is made up by the cleanliness and beauty of the neighborhoods, and the kindness and helpfulness of the folks in Alliance. I’m proud to be here.
