Reflections for the Week of Feb. 7-11

Personnel:

• New Employee Announcement! Welcome Kristianna Wilder as a new part-time Library Clerk. Kristianna is from Phoenix, AZ. While in Pheonix, Kristianna worked as supervisor for a credit card call center. In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, reading, makeup and rescuing dogs. She moved to Alliance in 2021 to get back to the Midwest and is looking forward to getting to know the town and people better.

Community Development:

• The new house at 193 West 21st Street has received its Certificate of Occupancy.

• Runza has begun working on the interior of the new restaurant building.

• Goodwill is working on the drive through on the west side of the building.

• Planning Commission voted to recommend changes to the Ag Zoning Code and the detached structure code. The proposed amendments are now headed to Council on March 1.

• BIDs held their rescheduled meeting on Feb 10th. Unfortunately, the A-1 district did not have a quorum and were unable to hold their meeting. A-2 Business Improvement District board was able to meet and discussed plans for moving forward.

Chamber:

• Attended the Ag Committee meeting.

• Attended BBDC Perfect Blend.

• Attended the NE Chamber Deep Dive – Good Life Game Changer Priorities Zoom session.

• Held a Leadership Box Butte meeting with WNN and BBDC to revive the program.

• Attended the Downtown Improvement meeting.

Public Works:

• Lift Station “A” is now fully online. Electrical demolition at the old building is now in process.

• A Ribbon Cutting for the new Public Works building will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 10:00 AM.

• 222 water remotes installed.

• Landfill 123 customers, 140 tons of waste this week.

• Transit 694 riders this week.

• Landfill chipper cut up and placed in metal pile.

• Landfill trammel has been repaired and is operational.

Airport:

• Phone call with Ann Richart, Director of Aeronautics to discuss infrastructure bill, equipment, and future development at our airport. We are grateful to NDOT personnel for this very beneficial time to discuss local needs in a one-on-one format.

• Airport staff participated in Active Shooter Preparedness Webinar on Thursday. Thank you Chief Shoemaker for coming to the airport so we could participate with you.

• All annual building and land tax statements were sent out to tenants of the airport.

• Sandhills Center for Hope notified us that they are wanting to rent the office building at the airport. Lease will be on the March 1st Council agenda.

Parks/Cemetery Division:

• Finished final details in the painting and upgrades at the Shelterhouse.

• Removed dilapidated stairs in the Southeast corner of the tennis courts. Fence poles are being installed.

• Added water to the ice rink in an effort to level it.

• Painted the restrooms at Central Park and Laing Lake.

• Assisted with preparations for the Purple Wave auction.

• Ordered parts to repair the directory kiosk at the Cemetery.

Golf:

• The new water fountain/bottle fill station was installed in the Pro Shop.

• Painted numbers on stalls in the cart storage barn.

• Continued inventory ordering for 2022.

RSVP/Nutrition Site:

• Coordinating plans and arrangements for the Valentine’s Day dinner.

• Provided on-site and delivered meals.

• Completed necessary recording for RSVP and the Nutrition Site.

Library:

• Kristianna Wilder began her duties in the Clerk position Wednesday. It has been great having her here and she has already met many of our “regular” patrons. We are looking forward to seeing what she can bring to the library!

• This week Jody Lamp’s “Born to Rein” was the featured program sponsored by the Nebraska Humanities Council and the Alliance Public Library Foundation.

• Don’t forget to stop up and visit the gift case at the library for a last minute Valentine gift!

• We have begun the long process of inventory for the collection. This allows us to see what items are missing and need to be replaced.

• The Blind Date with a Book contest ends February 28th! Next month we will be doing a “Luck of the Irish” contest for our adult patrons…more details to come.

Police Admin:

• Multiple meetings regarding state grant purchases.

• Meeting regarding cell phone/radio usage.

• E911 Board Meeting.

• “Know your force” meeting held regarding community feedback on individual officers.

Police Communications/Intelligence:

• Coordinated 467 calls for service.

• Completed 18 report requests.

• 1 firearms permits issued.

• Implemented Zuercher “Field Ops” software, allowing officers to use our report system on their cell phones. This will keeping officers on patrol, expanding what we can cover by reducing the need to return to the office to complete reports.

Police Operations:

• 0 DUI, 12 Traffic Stops.

• 13 accidents, 1 K9 deployment.

• 100 Building Checks.

• 22 Community Contacts/Business Checks.

Animal Control:

• 23 Animal Calls.

• 1 Cat Intake.

• 10 Code enforcement issues.
