The human aspect of the EPH herd is recovering from the 11th annual Wild West Party this past Saturday at the Eagles. There’s no “neigh” it could have been a bigger success and we are truly humbled by the generosity and outpouring of support demonstrated by the Box Butte County community. Running a non-profit in any city is always a careful balance of give and take; this past weekend put the uniquely giving characteristic of western Nebraska on full display who gave more than their fair share. To that, we offer a sincere “Thank You.”
With the hurdle of the fundraiser cleared, now is the time to consider the therapeutic riding program slated to begin on Thursday May 12 at 5:30 p.m. at East Point Horspice. The program is available to anyone interested in developing their physical and mental well-being through the relationship between horse and human. Typically, the 10-week session offers activities focused on increasing balance, strength, and dexterity of both the body and mind. Many friendships have taken root over the years between riders, riders and volunteers, and volunteers and family members of riders. It provides a conduit for deepening community roots as well as learning to appreciate the dedication, empathy and commitment required to care for our equine partners.
There will be a volunteer orientation on Thursday May 5 at 5:30 at the EPH Memorial Volunteer Center to allow past and potential volunteers an opportunity to get (re)acquainted with the true stars of the program, the horses. There is always something new to learn here and we encourage anyone anticipating getting involved to plan on attending. We will go over the summer’s plans, offer tours and answer any questions or address any concerns. For further information contact EPH at (308) 762-3848, email at eph@bbc.net and check out www.eastpointhorspice.com for updates.
Until next time, learn to live like a horse and become a better human.
