Three people sustained minor injuries resulting from a crash that occurred near Maverik in Alliance. According to Officer Tyler Sherlock with the Alliance Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene on Feb. 8 at approximately 12:30 p.m. A preliminary investigation showed that a white 2013 Ford Expedition was northbound on Highway 385, near the 3rd Street intersection when the accident occurred.
“The SUV, occupied by an elderly male driver accompanied by his son and wife, began to negotiate the curve but crossed the median into the westbound lane,” said Sherlock. “Subsequently, the SUV veered into the ditch on the southwest corner of the Maverik lot, nearly flipping over before shearing off a concrete barrier protecting the Maverik gas pumps. The vehicle ultimately came to rest at the second concrete barrier. All airbags in the SUV were deployed upon impact.”
Sherlock noted that all of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, which he believes mitigated the severity of their injuries. They were transported to Box Butte General Hospital by first responders from the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department to be treated for their injuries.
“The Alliance Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the cause,” said Sherlock.
Sherlock explained that the vehicle was valued at $15,000, and was totaled as a result of the wreck. He estimates that there was approximately $1,000 of damage to Maverik’s property, which included two concrete barriers and one trash can.
