Through April and May, 4-H Staff from across the Panhandle are hosting Agsplosion events for Elementary students. The students learn about all of Nebraska’s agriculture commodities through hands on activities. Students also get the opportunity to eat some of the commodities during their sessions. The commodities include wheat, dairy, corn, beans, swine, beef, potatoes, and ag technology. On April 26th, the event was hosted in Hemingford for the Box Butte 2nd graders. A highlight of the day was making their own butter and grinding wheat.
Several students stated it was the best field trip ever because they got to make the butter and flour. The team will reach almost 700 youth across the panhandle with this program. This program would not be possible without generous donations from the Nebraska Wheat Board, Oshkosh Heifer Development, Walther Farms, Sheridan County Farm Bureau, Morrill County Farm Bureau, Cheyenne County Farm Bureau, and Nebraska Corn Board.
