Second seeded Sidney was strong on both sides Thursday, defeating the Alliance Lady Bulldogs 58 to 23 in a contest played in Gering.
Alliance was held to single digit scoring in all 4 quarters and fell to the Raiders for the second time for the year. With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 4 and 14 on the season. The contest was an opening round affair of the Western Conference tournament held in Gering and Scottsbluff. Sidney jumped to a 30 to 9 lead at halftime and control the action throughout. Reese Armstrong led the Dog offense with 8 tallies.
Red Raider offense was in high gear from the opening. Sidney scored the game’s first 5 points before a free throw by Alliance’s Brooke Bailey got the Dogs on the board. Alliance then received free throws by Olivia Krejci, Armstrong, and Bailey to stay in range. The period came to a finish with an Armstrong deuce and the Bulldogs down 19 to 6.
Quarter #2 began well for Alliance with a Krejci basket. Unfortunately, it was the lone Dog score of the period. Sidney extended its margin from 10 to 21 by scoring the period’s final 11 tallies. At halftime, the Lady Red Raider margin stood at 30 to 9.
Four consecutive three pointers for Sidney to start the third put the contest out of reach. Down 42 to 9, the Dogs ended the spree with a hoop by Addison Weber. Period 3 came to a conclusion with the Bulldogs getting a trey from Hannah Benzel. Sidney was up 46 to 14 after three quarters of play.
In the finale, the Dogs put 9 in the scoring column. A two by Krejci was followed by an Armstrong 3. Alliance’s final tallies came from the line with Armstrong hitting two and Brinlee Lanik making a pair. Meanwhile, the Red Raider offense continued to have success, scoring the game’s final 7 points.
