Game one of the 2025-2026 season for the Alliance girl’s basketball team took place Friday in Gering. An 18 to 8 spurt by Gering in the second quarter led the hosts to a 46 to 32 win over the guests. The visiting Dogs would score just one bucket in the period as Gering got the win. With the loss, AHS begins the year 0 and 1. Gering also got the victory in the JV contest. Alliance dropped a 43 to 41 decision in the first affair on the evening. Reese Armstrong led Alliance in scoring with 13 points in the varsity ball game. Alliance did put 10 players in the scoring column.
First game jitters were apparent in the first period of the varsity game. Both team’s offenses struggled to get going. A bucket by Armstrong at the 6 minute mark started the scoring. Gering answered with a 2 pointer and at the midway point of the opener the game was knotted at 2. Alliance then took the lead with a hoop by Brinlee Lanik. Six tallies by the hosts ensued as Gering stormed ahead 8 to 4 with under 2 minutes remaining in the quarter. The period came to a close with free throws by Addison Weber and Armstrong and Gering out in front 8 to 6.
Gering came out strong in the second, quickly outscoring Alliance 11 to 0. Down 19 to 6, another 2 by Armstrong plus 2 free throws by the Freshman stopped the spree. Another run by Gering, 7 to 0, was next that put the Alliance deficit at 26 to 10. Quarter #2 ended with Alliance getting free throws by Brooke Bailey, Paz Cody, and Giselle Gonzalez and the guests down 26 to 14.
Action was tight in the third with Gering tallying 11 points and Alliance netting 7. Free throws by Weber and Bailey kept the Dogs close. Back to back baskets by Armstrong plus a free throw by Lanik made it 34 to 21 in favor of the hosts. Three free throws by Gering finished the third quarter scoring as G Dogs lead 37 to 21 heading to the fourth. Alliance would have their best scoring period in the finale, tallying 11 points. Two pointers by Armstrong, Maslin Breen, Kiki Adams, and Hannah Benzel paced the guest’s offense. Alliance also got free throws by Weber and Olivia Krejci but it wasn’t enough.
