An 8 to 0 spurt midway through the second quarter was too much to overcome for the Alliance girls basketball team on Saturday in their matchup with Hill City. The Lady Bulldogs fell to the Rangers 39 to 21 in a game played in Alliance. Senior Macey Seebohm was superb, tallying a double double for the Dogs. The guard scored 12 points while pulling down 12 boards to lead the Alliance offense. With the loss, AHS now sees its record drop to 1 and 15 for the season. Hill City also won the JV battle that was played earlier. The Rangers down the Dogs 54 to 24.
In the early stages of the first quarter, it was the guests taking the opening momentum. The Rangers scored the game’s first 4 tallies to surge ahead. A free throw with under 3 minutes left in the quarter by Seebohm ended the spree as the Dogs got into the scoring column. Two Hill City free throws followed that pushed the Rangers’ lead to 6 to 1. Bulldog Paz Cody then added a bucket but 5 consecutive points by the visitors increased the Alliance deficit to 11 to 3. The first 8 minutes of action came to a close with a hoop by Seebohm and Alliance down 11 to 5.
Six straight Seebohm points on 3 two pointers knotted at the game at 11 all in the first 4 minutes of the second half. The turning point of the contest then switched to the guests. Hill City ran off 8 in a row to go ahead for good at 19 to 11. The half finished with Alliance getting a free throw by Shyla Salcido and the Rangers getting a two pointer. After 16 minutes of play, the Lady Rangers were up 21 to 12.
Alliance could muster just 3 points in the third while South Dakota netted 14 points. The period began with a basket by the guest that pushed their lead to 11. Hill City then extended their advantage to 20 with 3 straight three pointers, making the scoreboard read 32 to 12 at the 4 minute stage. Free throws then by Bulldog Brooke Bailey and Seebohm stopped the spree as Alliance closed to within 18. The rest of the period was all free throws with the Rangers making 3 and Cody sinking 2 for the Dogs. Heading to the fourth, Alliance was down 35 to 15.
It was a low scoring affair in the final 8 minutes. Alliance held the visitors to just 4 points but could tally just 6 for themselves. With 6 minutes remaining, Salcido got the Bulldogs on the board with a two. It was followed by 2 free throws by Seebohm and another goal by Salcido as Alliance closed the gap to 35 to 21. Unfortunately, the Bulldog offense ran out of energy and wouldn’t score for the game’s final 4 minutes. Hill City ran off the contests last 4 tallies and went on to post the 39 to 21 victory,
