Albert J. Soto, Sr., 93, of Alliance, Nebraska passed away on May 10, 2022.
Albert was born June 16, 1928 to Concepcion and Ysabel (Ayala) Soto. Albert was one of five children.
On August 19, 1950, Albert was united in marriage to Margaret E. Vera of Bayard, Nebraska and to that union they had two children, Albert Soto, Jr. and Sandra Soto-Mortaro.
During Albert’s years in Alliance, after having lost his father at a very young age, he had to find employment in order to provide for the family and eventually became employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad. After his retirement from the railroad he enjoyed spending time gardening, meticulously tending to his yard, visiting his grandchildren and visiting old railroad buddies. Albert was particularly adept at fixing things and was an avid learner of construction. As devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, he held strong to his faith and regularly attended mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Albert’s survivors include his wife, Margaret; son, Albert Soto, Jr.; daughter, Sandra (Peter) Mortaro, grandchildren, Anton, Eric (Dana), Koren (Troy) and Jill (Chris) , and great grandchildren, Molly, Kady, Liam, Cameron, Gabriella and Tristan; sister, Margaret Sanchez of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and brother, Alfred (Jayne) Soto, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; brother-in-laws Tomas Vera of Tucson, Arizona and Ernest (Lucille) Vera of Bayard, Nebraska, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Helen Vallejo and Marie Vallejo and family friend, Pilar Vasquez and Pilar’s daughter, Rosie (Vasquez) Arouchon.
Special thanks and blessings to the ministers of the church, friends and extended family members who visited and helped them during the transitions they had to endure.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Holy Rosary Church on Monday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Matt Koperski officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Holy Rosary Catholic Church or St. Agnes Academy.
