Allan J. Gerk, 75, passed peacefully at his home with his family by his side after a battle with cancer on June 11, 2024.
He was born in Julesburg, Colorado on March 11, 1949, to Isidore and Mary (Lechman) Gerk. After Allan graduated from Julesburg High School he served as a distribution clerk for the US Army and was later honorably discharged.
Allan married Carol J Adamson, 01/01/1996 and moved to Alliance where Allan enjoyed his job caring for the Library, the Knight Museum and other various buildings for over 14 years until he retired. He always said his job with the City of Alliance was the best job he ever had. After retirement they enjoyed some time in Arizona and Colorado before settling in Scottsbluff, NE.
Allan was well known for his ability to always make light of any situation and his ever present humor and smile. Allan found a true passion for genealogy and would spend countless hours researching family lineage. He loved to tinker with stuff, start and sometimes finish projects and organize everything. Allan never met a kid he didn’t like and absolutely loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
Allan is survived by his loving wife, Carol of Scottsbluff, NE; four daughters and their families that he inherited through marriage. Justine Kloth-Bartlett, TN; Kelly (Bart) Stewart-Chadron, NE; Nancy (Delbert) Leisy-Alliance, NE; Sarah (Pete) Arreguy-Amhearst, NE; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; siblings Leonard Gerk-Aurora, CO; Marilyn (Jim) Fender-Windsor, CO; Rose (Charles) Lankford-Longmont, CO; Cathy Wegmen-Thorton, CO; John Gerk-Denver, CO along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and several long-time friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his nephew John Lankford, sister-in-law Jo Beth Gerk, and son-in law Jeffery Kloth. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 10:00am at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery 2610 County Road 57, Alliance, NE.
It is respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Allan’s honor be made to your local Hospice or Veterans Association as Allan was forever grateful for all of their care.
