Alliance Advances with Straight Set Win over Schuyler

Lexington High School was the site of opening round action of the Class B District 6 volleyball tournament. Playing on Tuesday were the Lady Bulldogs of Alliance and the Warriors of Schuyler. The Bulldogs moved on to semi final play with a straight set victory over the Warriors 25 12 25 21 25 10. Alliance got a super effort from Ryli Poss who led the Dog offense with 12 points. The Alliance sophomore also had 8 kills. Senior Addison Weber finished the night with a team high 9 kills while Kenley Jelinek added 9 points. Alliance enjoyed margins in all three sets and cruised to their tenth W on the year.

Early Jelinek tallies in set one got the Dogs off to a strong start. Tied at 2, four points by Jelinek gave AHS a lead at 6 to 2. Kills in the opening minutes by Poss, Kaiah Adams, and Olivia Krejci paced the Bulldog offense. A pair of points by Weber, including an ace serve, later in the set put the Alliance advantage at 9 to 3. Adams then went to serve and scored 3 in a row to make it 13 to 4. She had 2 ace serves during the spree. Poss would continue her strong play later in the opener with a kill and 2 points. Up 21 to 11, the set came to an end with AHS getting points from Jelinek, Adams, and Weber. An ace by Weber brought an end to the set with the Lady Bulldogs getting the win 25 to 12.

Action was closer in the second. The match was tied at 1,2,3,4, and 5. Alliance received points and kills by Poss, Weber, and Adams to stay in striking distance. Knotted at 5, a Poss spike gave AHS a lead and sent Krejci to the service. The Alliance freshman ran off 3 in a row as the Bulldog lead went to 9 to 5. Kills by Adams and Alexis Libsack during the spree gave Alliance a 4 point cushion. Momentum continued to be on the side the Dogs midway thru the set. Alliance went ahead 17 to 10 thanks to good work by Weber, Libsack, Poss, Adams, and Jelinek. Schuyler answered with their best play of the set. The Warriors went on a run of 6 to 0 to pull within one at 17 to 16. A kill by Krejci stopped the run. Down the stretch, it was the Dogs making the plays. Kills by Poss and Weber made the board read Alliance 24 Schuyler 21. Set #2 finished with a Poss point and Alliance taking the victory 25 to 21.

Set three belong to AHS. The Bulldog raced to a 6 to 0 margin with points and kills coming from Weber and Poss. Two Jelinek tallies later made it 9 to 2. Adams and Weber then combined for kills as Alliance surged ahead 12 to 4. Strong efforts from Krejci and Libsack later in the third helped the Bulldogs maintain their lead. Libsack would score 5 points in the last set. The game came to a conclusion with 2 points by Ahrianna Galvan and the Dogs getting the win 25 to 10.
