Revenge was sweet for the Alliance girl’s basketball team on Monday in semi final action of the Class B-8 sub district action played in Scottsbluff. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Bulldogs of Gering 32 to 26 to advance to Tuesday’s final against Scottsbluff. Back in December in the first game of the season it was Gering rallying to down AHS 49 to 41 to start the year. Tuesday’s game was very similar with Alliance leading for most of the game and holding off a late Gering rally. The game in December saw the Bulldogs up by 9 points heading to the fourth only to see Gering outscore the Dogs by 17 and go on for the win. On Tuesday, Alliance also led by 9 heading to the fourth quarter, but would withstand a late Gering surge to move on to the finals. Alliance improves to 9 and 15 on the year while Gering ends their season with a 6 and 17 record.
Two quick buckets by Alliance’s Addison Weber began play in the first 8 minutes of action. Down 4 to 0, Gering would then get on the scoreboard to slice their deficit to 2 at 4 to 2. At the four minute mark, the Lady Bulldogs from Alliance got a triple by Macey Seebohm to move ahead 7 to 2. A trey by Alliance’s Regan Braun followed that put the Dogs ahead 10 to 3. The period closed with a three by Gering and Alliance out in front 10 to 5. It was Gering gaining the momentum in period #2. A free throw by Seebohm began the scoring with Alliance leading 11 to 5. After that Alliance went cold from the field and Gering surged ahead. The Bulldogs would go on an 8 to 0 run and gain the lead at 13 to 11 with under 2 minutes to go in the half. Two more hoops by Weber would then put Alliance in the lead at 15 to 13 right before halftime. The first half ended with a free throw by Alliance’s Haylie Winter and the Dogs in front 16 to 13.
Senior CC Hudson started the third for Alliance with a 3 pointer that increased the Bulldog margin to 19 to 13. It was followed by a 2 by Hudson as the Bulldog lead grew to 21 to 13. Four Gering points countered the Alliance run, and with 1 minute left in the period, the Alliance advantage stood at 21 to 17. Another triple by Hudson gave Alliance a little more breathing room and the quarter closed with a driving lay up by Seebohm at the buzzer. After three periods of play Alliance led 26 to 17. Any thoughts of a Gering rally were denied in the first four minutes of the fourth. Two free throws by Seebohm were followed by back to back hoops by Bulldog Jaelynne Clarke that put Alliance out in front 32 to 17 with four minutes left. The game concluded with Alliance able to run out the remaining minutes on offense and Gering tallying the contest’s final 9 points, but they were not enough. Final Alliance 32 Gering 26
