The Activate Alliance community group is celebrating a successful summer season of the Alliance Bike Share Program. In its third year the program has seen widespread use and enthusiasm as residents of all ages have taken advantage of the free bicycles available throughout the city.
However, as winter approaches, the brightly painted green bikes will soon be collected from their designated racks for routine inventory, maintenance, and winter storage. The program aims to ensure that each bike remains in top condition for next year’s riding season. While the bikes won’t be available for public use during the winter months, Activate Alliance wants the community to know that the program will continue next spring, with refreshed and well-maintained bikes ready to roll.
“We’ve been thrilled to see so many community members enjoy the bike share program this summer,” said Hannah Robinson from Activate Alliance. “As we take the bikes off the streets for the colder months, we want to assure everyone that the program is here to stay. We’ll be back in full force once the weather warms back up.”
The green bikes, made available at key locations across Alliance—including the Alliance Rec Center, Box Butte General Hospital, and several schools—were part of an effort to encourage physical activity and offer an accessible, eco-friendly transportation option for the community. The program is free for all users and simple to participate in: riders take a bike from one of the designated racks, enjoy their ride, and return it to any Alliance Community Bike rack when finished.
As the bikes are temporarily removed from the streets, Activate Alliance is always accepting volunteers to help with the maintenance and upkeep of the fleet. Or if community members would like to get involved in a differently, they are invited to attend monthly Activate Alliance meetings, which take place virtually on the third Thursday of each month at 9 a.m.
Activate Alliance will inform the community when the bikes will return from winter maintenance in the spring.
