It was a banner weekend for the Alliance boys basketball team as they went undefeated in the Western Conference Tournament, claiming the championship title by holding off Scottsbluff.
Action began Thursday when Alliance took on Sidney. In the first quarter, the Bulldogs posted 19 points on the board while limiting the Red Raiders to nine. In the second quarter, Alliance posted an additional 17 points, while Sidney rallied to post 15. Alliance continued their streak, posting 13 points in the third quarter while Sidney battled to post 10. In the final quarter, both teams garnered 11 points, but Alliance maintained the lead, winning the game 60-45.
Next, it was a battle of the Bulldogs, as Alliance faced off against Gering. In the first quarter, Alliance scored 11 points, and Gering posted four points. In the second quarter, Alliance posted nine points, while Gering rallied to score 11 points. In the third quarter, Alliance’s defense was strong, limiting Gering to six points while garnering 14 points. In the fourth quarter, Alliance posted eight points while Gering rallied to post 16 points. However, Gering’s rally was not enough, and Alliance won the game with a final score of 42-37.
In the final game, the Scottsbluff Bearcats were the only team standing between the Bulldogs and the championship title. The Bulldogs started the game strong, posting nine points while preventing the Bearcats from scoring. In the second quarter Alliance continued to show strength, scoring 11 points while limiting Scottsbluff to five. Scottsbluff rallied in the third quarter, posting 23 points, while Alliance only scored eight. However, the Bulldogs fought hard in the fourth quarter, garnering 21 points while limiting the Bearcats to eight. The Bulldogs claimed victory, and the Western Conference Tournament title, finishing the game 49-36.
The Bulldogs will take to the court on Friday when they face off against Hastings on Friday in an away game.
