Nebraska Sandhills travel destinations, including several in Alliance, are featured in the July/August issue of Nebraska Life Magazine.
In the 15-page story, “Sandhills Journey: Nebraska’s natural sandbox is deep with adventure,” Nebraska Life Editor Alan Bartels explores the 20,000-square mile region while bringing readers along for the story that is part travel guide and part adventure.
“The Nebraska Sandhills is like no other place on earth. The history, heritage and stories to be found here are endless,” Bartels said. “The things to see and do here are just as unique, and in terms of adventure, traveling the Nebraska Sandhills should be on every adventurer’s bucket list.”
Destinations in the travel feature include Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park, Cody Park and Bailey Yard—all in North Platte; Lake McConaughy and Lake Ogallala near Ogallala; Carhenge, Dobby’s Frontier Town and Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge in the Alliance area; the Valentine and Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuges in Cherry County; Swan Lake south of Atkinson; Goose Lake near O’Neill; the Calamus Reservoir and Calamus River near Burwell; the Nebraska National Forest between Halsey and Thedford; and the Dismal River near Mullen.
