The Alliance girls’ basketball team saw their season come to a close on Monday night with a 67-24 loss to Sidney in the district semifinals. The Lady Bulldogs fought hard but were unable to overcome the top-seeded Red Raiders, who secured their third victory over Alliance this season. With the loss, the Bulldogs finished their season with a 4-20 record. Sidney’s strong second quarter, in which they outscored Alliance 14-2, proved to be the difference in the game. Senior Macey Seebohm led the Bulldogs with 14 points in her final high school game.
Seebohm’s 10 first-quarter points kept Alliance competitive early in the contest. She opened the scoring with a basket, and a later free throw gave the Bulldogs a brief 3-2 lead. Sidney responded with a three-pointer, but a free throw by Addison Weber kept Alliance within one at 5-4. The Red Raiders then went on a 4-0 run to extend their lead, but Seebohm answered with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 12-7. A free throw by Seebohm and a three-point play later in the quarter kept the Bulldogs within striking distance. However, Sidney closed the period with a 5-0 run, including a three-pointer, to take a 20-11 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter was dominated by Sidney’s defense, which held Alliance to just two points. Seebohm opened the period with a free throw, but the Red Raiders responded with a 12-0 run to take a commanding 32-12 lead. A free throw by Shyla Salcido ended the run, but Sidney added another basket to extend their lead to 34-13 at halftime.
Sidney continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Alliance 17-6. The Red Raiders opened the period with an 11-0 run, pushing their lead to 45-13. Seebohm stopped the run with a three-point play, and Weber added a basket later in the quarter. Brooke Bailey contributed a free throw, but Sidney maintained a 51-19 lead heading into the final period.
Bailey opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer, but Sidney answered with back-to-back threes and a two-pointer to extend their lead to 59-22. Bailey scored Alliance’s final basket with five minutes remaining, but the Red Raiders closed the game with an 8-0 run to secure the 67-24 victory.
