A portion of the city of Alliance briefly went without power early Sunday morning until crews were able to make repairs.
Electric Superintendent Kirby Bridge explained that the outage first occurred at about 2:02 a.m. Sunday after receiving a large blink of incoming power.
“It came back on, and then at 2:19, it blinked again, and it must have been a harder blink or a longer blink,” said Bridge. “When it did that, it caused the Cody Generation Plant to temporarily kick on. When it did that, evidently, some relaying got hurt in the process.”
Bridge said the system only lost three circuits, which affected power in the center of Alliance until crews were able to make the repairs. He said that power was restored at 4:51 a.m.
“It wasn’t the whole system,” said Bridge. “It was like a quarter of town, or maybe a third. We had about two and a half hours where some of the town was without power until we were able to do some switching to get everybody turned back on.”
