An Alliance man is behind bars following a sentence issued in federal court in Omaha for distribution of heroin and fentanyl.
Matthew Foster, 36, of Alliance, was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard on Feb. 10 to serve 180 months in prison, to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release.
The case stems back to an incident on Feb. 3, 2021, in which law enforcement officers were dispatched to an Alliance residence regarding an overdose victim. According to a release issued by United States Attorney Steven Russell, an investigation by law enforcement revealed that Foster provided a fentanyl pill to the victim who had overdosed. Medical personnel were able to revive the victim with Narcan, resulting in the victim’s survival.
On Feb. 10, 2021, a confidential informant was used by law enforcement to purchase heroin and blue Fentanyl pills from Foster in Alliance, according to Russell. Following the controlled purchase, law enforcement officers conducted a search of Foster’s residence, executing a search warrant, which yielded blue Fentanyl pills and heroin.
