To pay proper respect to the American Flag, the American Legion Post 7 conducted a flag disposal ceremony on Sept. 16 at the Sallows Military Museum, following the approved method of disposing unserviceable flags.
American Legion District 4 Commander Steve Stanec said in a press release that showing respect for the flag and educating citizens about flag etiquette has been an essential element of the American Legion’s program since 1937.
During the ceremony, unserviceable flags were presented to Legionnaires for disposal. The Legionnaires sorted the flags, determining which ones were unserviceable, prior to burning them.
“Also, the purpose of this Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags is to have a dignified tribute to the U.S. flag and to its symbolism, as well as encourage proper respect for the Flag of the United
States,” said Stanec.
