AMS Picks up Fourth Win with Victory over Blazers

Wet and rainy conditions greeted football fans Saturday as the Torrington Trailblazers hosted the Alliance Bulldogs in a seventh grade contest. The Dogs overcame the tough circumstances, downing the Blazers 50 to 6. Alliance stormed to a 37 to 0 first half lead and cruised to the win. With the victory, AMS goes to 4 and 0 on the year. There was only one game as Torrington had only 15 players.

Alliance got on the scoreboard first on the game’s opening play. Caysen Robertson received the Torrington kick and returned it 70 yards for the game’s first score. Coy Childers raced in for the PAT, putting the Dogs up 8 to 0. The Bulldog defense was then up for the challenge as the Trailblazers were forced to punt. AMS call on Robertson again and he scored from midfield. Childers add the point after as the Alliance lead grew to 16 to 0. Following another 3 and out by the Alliance defense, the Dogs scored again right before the period came to a close. A long run by Alliance’s Otoniel “Smiley” Valdovinos pushed the margin to 22 to 0.

The point after was good on a run by Devonte Taylor. In the second quarter, the Bulldog defense continued its good work as the Blazers were denied any points. Meanwhile the Dog offense scored twice. A touchdown run by Jackson Devlin covering 55 yards made the score 30 to 0. The half ended with a block punt by Jett Childers and score from Tanner Salcido which went for 20 yards. Robertson added the extra point with a successful kick. At half AMS was up 37 to 0.

The second half saw the Bulldog remaining strong as the Blazers were turned away. An 8 yard touchdown run by Alliance’s Mason Winter pushed the Torrington deficit to 43 to 0 heading to the final period. A block punt by Devlin set up the final Alliance score. Salcido raced in from the 19 while Robertson tacked on the PAT with another good kick. A late score by Torrington ended the contest with the Dogs going on for the 50 to 6 win.

Coach Mark Glesinger said, “Always a little nervous about a wet football and a slippery field but we were able to overcome the conditions. It was great to see so many players scoring points with 7 players getting into the scoring column. The “A” team did a super job building a big lead so we were able to play all our players.”

The Bulldog season comes to end this year with home games versus Chadron on Tuesday and the finale against Gering at home on Saturday with a 9 a.m. kickoff set.
