An Exciting Year Awaits

This year should prove to be exciting for East Point Horspice if our trajectory continues. Without going in to deep detail, Charlene’s health issues which began last June, have forced many tough decisions and offered a multitude of options that were simmering below the surface but now must be addressed. The important consideration here is that with the support of our extraordinary volunteers EPH has become the main point of concentration around the stEPHenson household which should allow the program to grow and develop in ways previously thought unattainable.

On Feb. 26 the Eagles club in Alliance will once again host our annual Wild West Party. Beginning at 5:30 pm a $10 fee will get you into the horsey hoopla with some of the Eagle’s famous burgers and fries garnished with a vast and varied silent auction, kid’s games, Texas Hold ‘em poker for the adults (this requires an additional $25 entry fee) and musical entertainment provided by your local favorite band, Crossbell. These talented musicians will also be performing for your dancing pleasure from 9-11 pm, so you’d better start practicing your favorite moves. You might say this will be the opportunity to get your groove back. Sales for the Ball Toss have begun so if you want to participate you better get your orders in to DeeDee Behm. The balls are sold in egg cartons of 12 for $10 with the chance to win great prizes. This event is our one annual big fundraising event and the horses would sure appreciate your support.

We’re excited to be developing a new curriculum centered around the horse being a conduit to recognize and seek improvements with people who need help recovering from those nasty curve balls life can throw at our heads, think PTSD, abusive relationships, traumatic events previously endured. The program is unique in that it does not focus on horsemanship skills but rather on the relationship and communication offered by the horse. We’ve witnessed first-hand the nearly unbelievable reactions from people participating in such a program and were moved to the point of nearly feeling required to create a similar program for our community. Through the horse’s sentient nature, the healing relationship developed with our silent partners is almost a foredrawn conclusion. The details and techniques are being fine-tuned and many test-drives will be made before this is rolled out to the public, but stayed tuned as this will certainly prove to be a worthwhile venture.

To help cover the costs of rescuing horses and developing such promising programs, as a 501(c)3 non-profit entity EPH continually seeks donations and support from non-monetary sources like our amazing volunteers. If you wish to volunteer or make a donation at any time, contact Charlene at (308) 762-3848 or shoot us an email at eph@bbc.net. Remember, all donations are tax-deductible in accordance with federal tax laws.
