APS Board Discusses Making Change to Logo

At its meeting on April 10, the Alliance School Board discussed the possibility of updating the logo for the district, giving the bulldog that appears in the logo a redesign.

Superintendent Dr. Troy Unzicker told board members that people have asked the board to review the current logo.

“Right now, we have the ‘A’ with the bulldog,” said Unzicker. “There’s different versions of that bulldog. I’m not going to repeat what it is, but there’s some things on the bulldog people think are not good. They claim the Panhandle laughs about it. I don’t know if that’s true, or not.”

Unzicker showcased the possible new designs that were made by a graphic designer. He said that when he first arrived at the school district, he made an effort to focus the numerous logos at the time to one logo for brand uniformity.

Board Member Shana Brown asked whether the bulldog in the current logo is different than the one that appears in the gym. AHS Principal Chris Stein said that it does not match the one in the gym.

Unzicker said there are similarities between the potential new logo and Drake University’s logo, and advised caution if the board proceeds with naming the proposed logo the official one for the district.

“We’d have to be careful making it official,” said Unzicker. “We try to keep things together because we don’t want our bulldog being that, and our bulldog being that, and our bulldog being that. We are trying to keep things branded with one bulldog so they know it’s Alliance’s.”

Unzicker asked board members whether they would like to go through the process to name an official logo. The board members said they would contact Unzicker in the coming week with their opinions.
