BBGH Board Discusses Scholarship Awards

The Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) Board of Trustees meeting was called to order at noon Monday, January 29, in the Alliance Room at BBGH. This month’s agenda included approval of increased scholarship funds, a report on the most recent financials, and an Information Technology (IT) report.

The Board of Trustees agreed to increase the BBGH Scholarship amount to $2,000 per scholarship. Scholarships are available to current high school and college students, and applications are open February 1 – March 1, 2024. Students can apply at: www.bbgh.org/education_opportunities/scholarships.html.

Chief Financial Officer Mike O’Dell explained to the Trustees why this last month resulted in a loss. In short, O’Dell described how the electronic health records conversion has impacted the hospital financially, and outlined a plan for BBGH to get back on track. One step in that plan is to ensure the stability of the Patient Finance department by filling job openings. The Trustees approved the financials as presented.

Information Technology Manager Mandy Greve gave the Trustees an update on current IT projects. Soon the only way for patients to attend a virtual visit will be through the MHealth Patient Portal app. With questions on how to access or set up a patient portal, call 308-761-3397 or email patientportal@bbgh.org. Also, in hopes to gain more consistent feedback from patients, an electronic survey will be sent from Press Ganey in the near future.

New BBGH employees recognized during the meeting included Infection Preventionist Amanda Sabo, and Surgical Tech Michael Sanchez.

The Board went into executive session at 12:56 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 1:17pm, with no action taken. The next BBGH Board meeting will be at noon on Monday, February 26, 2024 in the Alliance Room. The public is invited to attend.
