Alliance and Chadron met Saturday in seventh grade football action. Using several big plays on offense, it was the Bulldogs downing the Cardinals 36 to 8 to improve to 1 and 1 for the season. The ball game was played in Chadron. AMS roared to a 22 to 0 lead at halftime then added 14 more to lead 36 to 0 before the Cards scored late to finish the contest.
Alliance’s first tally came on a 64 yard touchdown run by quarterback Bo McCune in the opening moments of the game. In the second period, the Bulldogs scored twice. A 76 yard TD run by Alliance’s Dreyton Perez put the score at 14 to 0 with 5:11 showing on the clock. Ashton Weingart added the extra on a 3 yard reception from McCune. Up 14 to 0, AMS scored one more right before half. A 20 yard Weingart reception got the Dogs close. Running back Karson Leisy had a nice gain to put Alliance on the door step. The drive ended with another gain by Weingart and a 3 yard TD carry to Perez. McCune tacked on the PAT. The score came with 20 seconds left in the half. Chadron had one last chance but failed to score and the teams went to halftime with AMS up 22 to 0.
Strong efforts by the Alliance defense continued in the third as the hosts were held scoreless. Meanwhile, a super punt return by Weingart set up the Bulldogs next score. The return went to the Cardinal 30 yard line. From there, it was a touchdown by Perez on a reverse play that put the guests ahead 28 to 0 with 6 minutes left in the third. The rest of the quarter saw another stop by the Alliance defense and big gains by McCune and Perez. On the first play of the final period, the Bulldogs increased their margin on a 16 yard TD pass from McCune to Perez. The extra point was good on a run by McCune. With 7:50 left in the contest, the AMS advantage was 36 to 0. Chadron would then score on a long run to cut their deficit to 36 to 8 but an interception by Bulldog Aiden Hanig finished the contest.
